We chose a bit of a different route when producing Alia & Kenan’s Wedding Trailer. If you have followed our previous trailers, you’d recognized that we often include excerpts of various speeches to add substance to the story being told. Although there were many great speeches at Alia and Kenan’s wedding (including the story behind how Kenan came up with the classic phrase “Hustle-ation”… gotta love it), we opted to work mostly with the visuals captured to give you a sense of their special day.
When meeting with Alia & Kenan last summer, we knew that there was a lot of time and effort put in to the details of their reception which was being held at the Ottawa Art Gallery. When discussing these details with Alia a couple of weeks prior to the wedding, we knew that incorporating some of what went on behind the scenes would have been appropriate. So we were fortunate enough to be allowed behind closed doors to capture snippets of what preparations Tulips and Maple had going on.
To give you a bit of background to their story, Alia and Kenan have spent quite a bit of time apart as their careers took them to different countries all around the world. They were actually looking forward to spending their first summer together this year since they met. So needless to say there was definitely a build up of excitement we wanted to come out in this piece. Now I’d have to say that 99% of the music selections you hear from our productions are chosen by us. We always take into account what musical genres each couple enjoy and allow them to influence the films we are working on. However in this case, we actually chose one of the songs that Alia had mentioned to us. It’s words, the beat and the overall feel seem to just fit appropriately, building on the story of two individuals coming together for their marriage. The last shot of this trailer was inspired by Alia and Kenan’s coming together and no longer having to live apart from one another.

Ask anyone who is married and we’re sure they”ll tell you, “there’s so much work that goes into a wedding”. Planning and coordinating the events leading up to the big day present a story in themselves that we feel are as important as the moments couples experience on their actual wedding day. If you think about it, getting married is one of the biggest events you’ll probably experience in your life. The time, effort and investment to make sure that even the smallest of details are not overlooked can be exciting and at times stressful. Since so much goes into these preparations (dress fitting, rehearsal dinner and Banquet hall decor to name a few), we ask the question “Why not include these moments as well?”. We were fortunate enough to spend several days capturing these events leading up to Amy and Fil’s wedding day. With this piece we really wanted to mimic the excitement couples experience as the day creeps closer and felt this would contribute nicely to the story we had planned to tell.
There’s a pretty unique story behind Amy’s Christian Louboutin shoes. Believe it or not they were the last pair in her size throughout all of North America and knowing how much Amy loved them, it was the work of several of her bridesmaids (who called in a few favours) that saw these shoes on her feet for the wedding day. Knowing the time and effort that went into finding these shoes, we felt it fitting to weave them into their story, as it is something Amy will always want to remember.
One of the most important elements that we feel make our films so true to the couples we are working with, is to bring out their personalities and to give the viewer a sense of who they really are. If you had a chance to watch Amy & Fil’s Engagement Film, you’ll have most likely gotten a taste of their fun side. Going into this wedding we knew that there was a totally different side to Amy and Fil and producing an engagement film prior to this trailer really allowed us the freedom to focus more on their serious side. We really wanted to bring out the unique and sentimental bond that they share with one another in this piece which influenced the direction we took when producing this trailer.
Yours Truly,
