Over the course of this wedding season we’ve worked with many different couples who all share different stories and special moments that are pretty interesting to learn about. One of the Engagement Films (E-Films) that we recently showed, Lazers & Mullets, is a short piece about a typical Saturday morning/afternoon for Lacey and Zeyad during the Summer.
Lacey’s classic style Baseball uniform and Zeyad’s “New Euro” Mullet brought back visions of our childhood and screamed out “the good old 80′s”.. This trip down memory lane was what inspired the colour & tone used to grade this piece in post production. When editing Lazers & Mullets, I was constantly reminded of the look and feel of many tv shows growing up and really felt that giving it some old school lovin while colour grading would help translate that feel into this piece.
Using various colours and tones really add an extra dimension to film and help communicate the feel/emotion we are looking to convey. A great deal of time was spent on achieving this look in post production as each individual clip was colour graded to add to the story we wanted to tell….
We choose to grade each project with programs like Apple Color, a platform that allows total creativity, enabling us to reflect a specific feel for each individual project. Although it does have a handful of presets, we refrain from taking the short cut and using them (and other software packages that offer preset colour schemes) as we feel it can too easily generalize your work and realistically takes away from the entire creativity process. Colour grading our work is pretty much the icing on the cake. It’s one of the final touches that goes into creating a short film and should be used with the intent of evoking certain emotions rather than cutting and pasting numerous preset colour templates to make a project look cool. So we hope you enjoy it and get that 80′s feel too!
We’d also like to give a shout out to Fawzi O’tell from Tutti Fruitti and Eli, Bruce and Laila from Silver Scissors Salon for allowing us to bring our cameras into their establishments. They were all super accommodating which made things so much more fun! Thanks again, you guys rock.

Creating short films that are relevant to the individuals and entities we work with has to be one of the most intriguing aspects of what we do. Engagement films (EFilms) are always a lot of fun to be a part of, not just because they give us the chance to spend quality “pre-wedding” time with our couple, but the fact that preparing for a project like this gives us the perfect opportunity to figure out who our couple really is.
We are interested in learning about what brought these two individuals to the next level, where it all started and how they came to be. Genuinely being curious about what makes their relationship work (and sometimes what doesn’t… haha) allows us to create compelling stories that adequately reflect each couple.
Our first meeting with Maninder and Gurprit was a real treat. After grabbing a bite to eat and discussing their wedding details, we could really get a feel for the dynamic between them and knew their EFilm should reflect their upbeat nature. So on to the drawing board and away we went…
As several months passed and their big day finally arrived, we find our selves sitting infront of a big screen at Maninder and Gurprit’s reception, experiencing their EFilm with 500 friends and family members. It’s at this point in the evening when it really becomes worth it. Its not just about having a creative piece that reflects who you are as a couple (although essential).. but we believe the real treat is being able to experience this with the people in your life that are closest to you. If you think about it, when else are all these people going to be together in one room celebrating you! So its during those few minutes where everyone’s attention is drawn to our couples story being played out on the big screen, that we take in the moment and our couples reactions that makes it all worth while.

Okay so this piece needs a bit of an introduction as it was played during Gen and Carlos’ wedding reception this past weekend.
So the story goes…
Last fall Gen approached us with the hopes of creating a unique piece to be played as part of her speech to her mother and future husband on her wedding day. So needless to say over the winter months we tossed ideas back and forth on how to go about incorporating this video to flow with her speech. The scrap book that Gen was working on was a gift to be given to her mother after the wedding and the pictures were all to be on display at their reception.
Now fast forward a few months and we get a phone call from Carlos telling us that he wants to play a special song for Gen at their reception. He wanted to know if it was possible to film his studio session while recording the song to have incorporated into their wedding feature film…
So many months later…..(and secret emails, phone calls and text messages from both Gen and Carlos) we ended up pieced this together to give both Gen and Carlos a bit of a surprise at their Reception on their wedding day.
Congratulation to the both of you!

Many of you may remember Pietro proposing to his Girlfriend Lara as she arrived home from vacation a couple of years back. Well we were proud to be a part of Pietro’s proposal and were thrilled to also be a part of their wedding day.
This trailer was inspired by the story of how Lara and Pietro met on the playground many years ago at their Junior High School. On the morning of their wedding day, we took Pietro and his entourage to the very same basketball court where Lara first met him.
Throughout the years Lara and Pietro’s friendship grew stronger and blossomed into something very special. Their wedding cake inspired the final shot of this trailer, as there is quite a history behind the figurines sitting on top of it. So needless to say tying these figurines into their first Dance just made so much sense.
Congratulations to Lara and Pietro on a life long story! All the best in the years to come.

There are so many things that we learned about Amy and Fil throughout the whole process of producing this short piece. From the first time we began storyboarding ideas until our last shoot during their studio session, we saw more and more of their personalities come out and really allow us to get to know them better. One of the greatest compliments we received after showing this film at the reception was when one of the guests came up to us and said “It was so Amy and Fil”. This is exactly what we aim to do. To tell a story about the couple we are working with and to bring out the essence of who they are as individuals. The amazing part is while weaving the story together we really begin to see the reasons they are a couple and why they vibe so well. So needless to say that hearing those words from one of the guests was music to our ears.
During our studio shoot, Amy pulled off at least 6 amazing impersonations that were so good we knew we had to incorporate them into the film. The interesting part is that there are really good story’s behind a lot of her impersonations. When it came to Fil we knew we had to play on his “serious” sense of humour. He had us in tears while filming and editing took us a bit longer than expected because we kept watching the footage over and over again.
One of the greatest things about shooting an Engagement film is that it allows us to spend more time with our couples and really get to know them before their wedding day. At the same time they get a feel for our shooting style and know what to expect. When Amy and Fil first met up with us last winter we knew that they were looking for something different. Something that would really stand out and be unique. After discussing our ideas regarding an Engagement Film and explaining to them what kind of experience it is to share with family and friends at a reception, they knew that this would be the right touch to add to what turned out to be an already amazing wedding day. Amy and Fil’s Engagement Film was played for the 300 guests in attendance as an introduction to their entrance into the banquet hall.
We had a great time working with you both and a ton of fun producing this for your special day.
All the best!
